Detroit Lions and MainGate Inc. Announce
New 10-year Deal
Merchandiser to coordinate all
LIONS merchandise sales beginning in 2009
DETROIT, MI-FEBRUARY 26, 2009 - In an effort to provide Lions fans with the most innovative and complete merchandising services, the Detroit Lions announced today that MainGate Inc. has agreed to a 10-year deal that makes company the exclusive retail and merchandising company for the organization.
The partnership which formally begins on April 1, 2009 positions MainGate Inc. to operate all merchandise locations at Ford Field, including a year round pro shop, training camp, the official E-commerce store as well as act as the Lions internal merchandise department.
"We are extremely excited to work with a company, who shares our vision, to provide outstanding quality to our customers. We are confident that MainGate will bring our merchandising program to a higher level", said Lions President, Tom Lewand.
Since its founding in 1963, MainGate's primary activity has been the coordination of event merchandise sales for the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). While that partnership has grown and remains a core part of the company's business, MainGate has become a multifaceted merchandising and marketing company that serves numerous business partners.
MainGate is the exclusive merchandiser of the Indianapolis Colts, NHRA, IndyCar series, Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Danica Patrick Racing, Budweiser King Racing, John Force Racing, Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auto Auction, and the Indy Racing League. In addition MainGate operates the online merchandise business for the St. Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs and Nicklaus Companies.
MainGate also has partnerships with numerous NBA and NHL teams and holds licenses for the NCAA, Harley-Davidson, National Lacrosse League, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
